After a few years of doing these, I've found a few more tricks to getting these to come out nicely, so I've redone my old acrylic eye tutorial.

As always, ask questions if I was unclear or if you need more information!

for the art, do you just draw with pencils onto a regular piece of paper? What kind of pencils do you use?

So are these Cabochons from Tap Plastics or do you cast them yourself? I'm so confused because the last time I did this where you coloured pencil on paper and stuck them on the back of the eye, it made this weird reflective thing that when I turned the eye sideways it like turned clear or something :/ It was SO weird, but I don't see that happening with these.

That's much easier than what I've done in the past! And looks way better! But... Doing it this way, does it take away the follow me eyes effect?

another trick i've been told for perfect circles: find a tube that is the right size for the pupil that you want (even if you want to create it out of a rolled up piece of paper). dip that in the black paint, and press it on to where you want it to go. I used 3D eyes (basically two of these resin pupils glued together), so I had to paint it directly on.

very nice tutorial! i was just wondering how big the eye picture is compared to the back of the blank.

What I did was use a stencil to make circles, and experimented until I found the size circle that showed up right at the edges of the blank. Because of the refraction inside the dome, there is a magnifying effect, so you can't just use your dome to make a circle to paint inside, the art has to be smaller to all be shown in the final eye. I've found a quarter is just about the perfect size to do the outline for 1.5" blanks.
